Corona vaccinations started on Sunday. The initial focus will be on old people’s homes and nursing homes. The group that can be vaccinated first also includes all people over 80 as well as hospital staff who are particularly at risk. On Saturday, the first doses were delivered to the federal states. There they will be distributed to vaccination centres and mobile teams. Other EU countries will also begin vaccinations on Sunday. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn stressed that Germany is well prepared for this largest vaccination campaign in its history: “The vaccination centres are ready to go, the vaccination teams are in place”. At the same time, he made it clear that the virus would not be defeated with the start of the vaccinations: “We will need a long breath to put this pandemic behind us.” Spahn said that the goal was to “go vaccinating on a large scale in the middle of 2021 and to offer vaccination to everyone who wants it”.
